Touchdown

Share your flights

What's this fuzz all about?

So you've found this page while searching for a simple, yet comprehensive aviation logbook. A logbook where you can also save flight memories because hey, isn't that what it's all about when we go flying? A logbook that allows you to share your flights with other pilots. Read on to find out how we can help you.

For whom is Touchdown designed?

Touchdown is an online logbook following the EASA standard. See sample pictures of the log in our extended FAQ. It's designed for both private and commercial pilots. Touchdown is especially useful for multi crew environments and flight schools. All flights need to be added only once to appear in the logbook of all involved pilots. Also, flight instructors can upload briefings in pdf format for their student pilots to visualise and download. Thanks to Touchdown's free text feature, a quick evaluation can be written easily after logging in to Touchdown.

For whom is Touchdown NOT designed?

If you're looking for a flashy, professional and fully-featured logbook, then you might be better off with other software. Touchdown really is the same as a classic paper logbook, but with the possibility to add pictures, videos, weather and passenger information and flight documents, and to make some of that information publicly accessible. Touchdown is all about sharing your flight memories. No more (yet), no less. Touchdown can however make pdf exports of your logbook, what makes it a fully valid EASA-type pilot logbook.

So I can throw away my paper logbook?

While Touchdown can store all legally required logbook information, we discourage the exclusive use of the online version of our software. The software is above all meant to keep track of the photos and videos you made during your flights, of the weather, the passengers you flew with, the flight documents, etc., for your personal record and to bragg with your friends and family about how cool your hobby is. We advise to regularly make use of the pdf export function and to keep a hard copy of your logbook for your record in order to avoid problems in case of online data loss. At Touchdown, we also realise that hackers can be smarter than us. While your information will be well protected, we're never safe from a big attack. If Sony can't keep the hackers out of their systems, how could we possibly guarantee this will never happen to us?

What makes Touchdown different?

Well, we can think of at least three major differences:

  • You can hide most of the functionalities you don't need, what makes the software easy-to-use and uncluttered.

  • You can easily keep track of your photos, videos, flight documents, metar information and passengers.

  • You can make your flights publicly available for all to see.

Also, Touchdown is an online application. That means you don't get in trouble if your computer crashes and you can visualise and update your logbook from any computer with an internet connection.

But what if I don't like the software or what if I don't want to use it anymore after two or three years?

If you've paid and you don't like it, we'll refund your money if you cancel your subscription within two weeks from the set-up. All your data on the Touchdown servers will be deleted. Any YouTube video or Picasa or Flickr slideshow will remain available on those sites, but not on Touchdown.
If you've been using the software for a while and don't want to renew your subscription, we have two options for you:

  • We can continue to give you access to your logbook as long as Touchdown keeps existing, but without the possibility to change anything about it anymore. This means you can still visualise your pictures, flight documents, and so on, but you won't be able to delete them or to add new flights or change existing flights.

  • We can also manage to provide you with all your logbook information, including your flight documents and uploaded pictures, weather and passenger information, and the links to your YouTube videos and Picasa pictures. Once this is done, all your information will be deleted from our database.

Okay, so what does it cost?

Touchdown has a one-time set-up cost of € 20 for the first year. From the second year on, we ask € 10 per year as a hosting fee. This fee gives you 500 MB web space to store your flight documents and pictures. Additional packages of 500 MB space cost € 5 per package per year. If you're interested, please pay by credit card or with your PayPal account by clicking the button below under "Ready to get started?". The e-mail address you use to access your PayPal account will be the e-mail address used to create your Touchdown account. If you do not want that, send us an e-mail after paying or change your e-mail in the Touchdown settings after you have received all your login information. European Union citizens can also pay via wire transfer. To do so or if you need an invoice, please contact us via e-mail: info(at)touchdown-logbook(dot)com.

That's it in a nutshell. Even though the software is easy-to-use, we've uploaded some tutorials to YouTube to make everything very clear and get you going.

Since we don't like catches, there's some more concrete information about how the software works and images in the extended FAQ.
